Purpose and Scope

Reporting directly to the Systems Engineering Lead, the OT Digital Systems Apprentice will operate within the Systems Engineering team, supporting the administration, monitoring, maintenance, and continuous improvement of computerized systems, operational technology (OT) infrastructure, network-connected manufacturing systems, and associated cybersecurity controls across the site.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Support the administration, maintenance, and monitoring of network-connected manufacturing, OT, and business-critical computerized systems, including servers, workstations, network equipment, storage, and supporting services.
  • Maintain system inventories and technical documentation, including hardware, software, firmware, network architecture, switch configurations, cabinet layouts, equipment locations, and connectivity records.
  • Support user and access management, including account administration, access reviews, security permissions, and implementation of cybersecurity controls and best practices.
  • Assist with backup, recovery, disaster recovery, business continuity, patch management, vulnerability remediation, antivirus monitoring, and cybersecurity activities.
  • Monitor system health, alarms, events, and infrastructure performance, supporting audits, periodic reviews, investigations, issue escalation, and compliance activities.
  • Collaborate with Global IT, Cybersecurity, Engineering, Facilities, Quality, and vendors on upgrades, maintenance, infrastructure and automation projects, system integrations, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in, or eligible for, a recognised Cybersecurity, IT, Networking, Computer Systems, Digital Technology, or related apprenticeship programme, with a strong interest in technology and cybersecurity.
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, networking, and cybersecurity concepts, supported by strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, organisation, and time-management skills, with a proactive approach and willingness to learn new technologies, systems, and processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to computer networking and IT infrastructure, including TCP/IP, switches, routers, wireless networks, Windows operating systems, virtualisation, servers, cloud platforms, and network troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals, including password management, access controls, malware protection, phishing awareness, and general enterprise technology.
  • Awareness of industrial automation and manufacturing technologies, including PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems; exposure through education, projects, work experience, or technical hobbies, with regulated-industry experience advantageous.
