We're looking for a senior software engineer with a strong foundation in hydrodynamics and software development , responsible for the core hydrodynamics kernel that powers Kongsberg Maritime’s world-leading ship simulators.
You will be working on the heart of the simulator: the real-time models that govern ship behavior, from hydrodynamics and hydrostatics to propulsion and machinery.
Develop and maintain simulation code in C++ and C# for ship hydrodynamics, hydrostatics, and machinery systems
Act as a subject-matter expert for hydrodynamic modeling , supporting both internal developers and hydrodynamics modelers
Work on tooling that enables hydrodynamics experts to build and calibrate new ship models efficiently and accurately
Explore and guide the use of machine learning and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to enhance model accuracy and automation
Stay informed on the latest hydrodynamics research and translate relevant findings into actionable improvements in the simulation platform
Ensure real-time performance and simulation fidelity in maritime training and operational contexts
You’re a rare hybrid: equally comfortable in a technical software engineering environment and a hydrodynamics modeling context . You understand how physical forces translate into code, and how tools should work to empower domain experts.
Must-Have Skills
5+ years of software development experience in C++ and/or C#
Solid foundation in ship hydrodynamics, hydrostatics, and/or propulsion modeling
Understanding of real-time simulation constraints and requirements
Ability to support and advise hydrodynamics modelers in best practices and platform use
Experience designing or extending technical tooling for engineering workflows
Experience with machine learning techniques and how they could apply to modeling or tooling
Exposure to CFD tools or the use of CFD data in model generation
Experience working in simulation domains (maritime, aviation, defense, automotive)
Familiarity with numerical modeling, control theory, or optimization methods
Academic or research background in naval architecture , fluid mechanics , or marine engineering
This employment may require a pre-employment check procedure in accordance with company security standards, role or site requirements. Please note that this might affect the offer process or employment.
Technologies & Tools
C++ and C# (core simulator and tool development)
Internal tooling platforms (built for modelers, written in .NET and Python)
Optional: ML frameworks, CFD pipelines, or visualization tools
